Description

This is a late 16th-century house, altered in later periods. It is timber-framed and rests on a black stuccoed sill, with roughcast exterior. The roof is steeply pitched and covered in old red tiles. The house is L-shaped and set back from the road facing east, with a long, slightly lower, north crosswing. A stair wing is located in the rear angle, and a large internal chimney is situated at the junction of the wings; a later internal south gable chimney is also present.

The main east front has a door with a gabled, tiled open porch located next to the left-hand corner, and a window in the gable end of the crosswing. There are three three-light casement windows on the first floor, and a smaller window in line with the central chimney, featuring four conjoined tall diagonal shafts. Matching shafts are visible on the south gable chimney.

Inside, the house features jowled posts, long straight tension braces in the walls and cross-walls, and clasped-purlin roofs. Original plank doors retain old iron fittings. A segmental arched, chamfered brick fireplace sits within the chamber above the hall. The house was likely originally entered via a lobby by the stack, prior to the formation of the two present entrances.
