Description

Cromwell Cottage is a house that originated in the 16th century with a rear range that was renovated in the 18th century, and it features a mid-19th century front block. The building has a timber frame that is roughcast, but the frame is exposed on the north side. The front block is constructed of grey brick and has a steeply pitched roof that is now covered with slate, featuring a half-hipped end with gablets. The front block has a low-pitched tiled roof that extends down to the ridge of the older range at the rear.

This long house, which is one and a half storeys tall, faces south, with the front half obscured by a two-storey, three-window-wide front block. The older range includes a large external west gable chimney and an internal chimney in the eastern part. There is a gabled dormer at the eaves on the southern half, which is obscured by the front block, featuring an 18th-century leaded plate casement window. The ground floor has two flush casement windows with two lights.

The north side displays an exposed frame with two gabled dormers at the eaves. The symmetrical south front of the front block features projecting end gable chimneys and red brick segmental arches over recessed sash windows that include margin lights. A gabled central porch with a half-glazed door is also present. Additionally, there is a single-storey outhouse made of grey brick and slate attached to the northeast corner of the main range.
