Description
Nos 1 and 3 Crabtree Lane are two cottages that have been converted into a house. They date from the late 17th century and were remodeled in the mid-19th century. The exterior is roughcast over a timber frame with mid-19th century brick, topped by a gabled slate roof. There is an external stack on the left end, finished in mid-20th century brick. The building has a three-unit plan, with a rear outshut added in the mid-19th century. It stands two storeys high and features a three-window range. The late 19th century entrance has a four-panelled door with two glazed panels to the right and a 20th century plank door to the left. The windows are 20th century two-light casements, and there is a mid-20th century outshut to the left.
Inside, the late 17th century timber frame is exposed, showing wall bracing and collar trusses, although the roof was heightened in the mid-19th century. There is a stop-chamfered beam to the left, a chamfered beam in the centre, and a bay to the right, which has mostly been rebuilt in the mid-19th century and features clunch walling at the front, possibly from a former fireplace. The building is included for its group value.
