Description

Burleigh Farmhouse and the adjoining barns date from the mid 17th century and feature a timber frame. The farmhouse was refaced in the late 19th century and forms a U-shaped group. It has a roughcast ground floor and a tile-hung first floor and attic, with glazing bar basements and a concealed plinth. The steep-pitched roof is covered with machine-made tiles. On the farmyard side, there are two large lateral chimney stacks made of red brick with rebuilt diagonal shafts. The right side of the farmhouse displays exposed timber framing and brick nogging. There is a similar external stack on the elevation facing the road. To the left, there is a 17th-century single-storey barn made of timber frame and red brick with plain tiles, and beyond that is a mid-19th-century barn constructed from yellow stock brick with a slate roof. The barns are weatherboarded on the farmyard side and include a third barn at right angles, which is made of red brick from the 19th century.
