Description

Lake House, located next to the boat house on the north side of the lake in Knebworth Park, is a cottage ornée dating from the 17th century. It features a timber frame and plaster construction, which was remodeled in the same style in the early 19th century. A left extension added in the late 19th century forms an L shape. The building has some weatherboarding and a thatched roof. The earlier section on the right side displays exposed framing on the gable end, with the front part of this section featuring framing raised above the plaster infill, patterned as intersecting arches. The house is one storey with attics. The right side includes a studded 17th-century plank door, an 18th or 19th-century four-pane casement window, and a two-light eaves dormer. To the left is a 19th-century door with a fan light. The left extension has similar ornamental half-timbering and is two storeys high, with leaded casements throughout.
