Description
The Farmers Boy Public House is a public house dating from the early 18th century, with the western end built in the early 19th century and a rear extension added in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with roughcast, while the western end is also roughcast brick. It has steeply pitched roofs, covered with old red tiles at the front and slates at the rear and on the rear extensions.
This long, one-and-a-half-storey structure faces north and includes three large gabled porches at the front, alternating with four windows, and an additional window on the western part with a blind recess above. There are three gabled dormers that rise through the eaves, each fitted with two-light casements. The central porch now contains a three-light sash window. At the eastern end, there is a tiled lean-to extension, and at the rear, there is a one-and-a-half-storey gabled extension. The rear features shallow three-light lattice casements located under the eaves, above a 20th-century lean-to outshut.
Inside, the public house has exposed framed partitions and a floor structure arranged in a three-cell, lobby-entry plan, with an axial beam present only in the heated middle bay. The narrower end bays contain axial joists, and there is a cellar located beneath the eastern end.
