Description
22 and 24 Knight Street are two adjoining houses located on the west side of Knight Street, featuring late 17th century and early 18th century exterior elements, although the buildings may be older. They are constructed with a timber frame and are plastered, topped by a steep old red tile hipped roof. The houses have a rendered plinth and a coved eaves cornice.
No 24, the larger of the two, is situated to the south and has two windows on each floor along with a central door. The windows are flush box sashes with 10/10 panes and a square proportion. The entrance features a four-panel door with a heavy frame and architrave, topped by a triangular pedimented moulded hood with a frieze and plain consoles.
No 22 has a similar door treatment but features a six-panel flush door, with the upper two panels being glazed. This house has two windows on the first floor, with the northern window matching that of No 24, while the southern window above the door is narrower and has renewed 6/6 paned sashes. The ground floor of No 22 has only one window, similar to those at No 24. Both houses have a large central chimney located closer to the northern end and include rear wings. They are part of a mixed architectural group on the west side of the street.
