Description
KNIGHT STREET 1. 5253 (West Side) No 26 (The Queen's Head PH) TL 4839 1492:3/51 II GV 2. Early C19. Stuccoed brick house with low plinth. Low pitched hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves. Double pile plan. 2 storeys and cellar under NE room. 2 internal chimney stacks on axial centre wall, only front rooms heated originally. 3 windows, 2 recessed sash windows with 6/6 panes on 1st floor with blank window recess between. Central door with triplets of windows to each side. Flush sashes with architraves 4/4:6/6:4/4. Centre window of N group now adapted as door. Centre door half glazed with stucco moulded surround of architrave and full entablature with corner scrolls. Iron bracket for signboard off centre to S. Simple moulded fire surround and shelf to 1st floor SE room. 4 panel doors throughout on 1st floor. Stair has turned newels and slender landing rail curved on plan. Stick balusters. Planning of Gd floor suggests house built as PH. Alterations and modern extension to rear. Part of important architectural group on W side of street.
