Description

Spriggs is a house located in Hertingfordbury, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame that has been extended in brick, rendered, and colourwashed, with some areas displaying comb pargetting and weatherboarding. It has a tiled roof and consists of two cells, standing two storeys tall with an attic.

On the ground floor, there is a rebuilt brick plinth and weatherboarding, along with two light diamond leaded casements and two single light windows. The first floor has two two-light metal casements and some inserted small lights, along with two gabled two-light dormers featuring diamond leaded lights. The roof is hipped with a central stack that has been rebuilt behind the ridge.

The left end of the house includes a ground floor weatherboarded lean-to outshut with an entrance and three casements on the first floor. The right end features a 20th-century entrance within an open hipped tiled porch. There is also a single-storey 20th-century hipped wing to the right, which is weatherboarded and has pargetting on the front. At the rear, two 20th-century gabled wings extend, with the left wing having an extruded stack and leaded casements. Inside, the house retains exposed framing and stop-chamfered binding beams.
