Description
Netherfield Cottages is a block of three houses built in the early 19th century, as indicated on the 1840 Tithe Map. The cottages feature black and white half-timbering, steep red tiled gabled roofs, and red brick chimneys. They present a picturesque Gothick symmetrical design over two storeys, facing west. The buildings are set on a steep hill, with gabled wings that step forward to a lower central entrance block, which is approached up the slope. The rear (east) side has symmetrical projecting wings with an elaborated central gable and hip-roofed recessed bays on either side. The windows are 2-light cast-iron lattice casements, and the cottages are adorned with scrolled edge bargeboards that have finials.
