Description
A house, now divided into three separate residences, likely dating from the 16th century, with alterations, a new facade, and subdivision occurring in the mid-19th century. It is a timber-framed building with two crosswings, situated on a raised bank above the road. The front and north gable are constructed of red brick, while the south gable is weatherboarded and the lower portion is plastered. Number 16 projects on the left, where what was probably a former jettied upper floor has been built in. The right crosswing (Number 20) retains a jettied upper floor at the rear, but without a projection to the front. The roofs are covered with slate tiles and run parallel to the road. A narrow bay on the north end may be a 19th-century addition. Inside Number 16, there are arched braces supporting the crossbeam of the upper floor. The brick facade of Number 16 features two windows on each floor, with segmental arches and modern wooden flush casements containing small panes. The fronts of Numbers 18 and 20 are a matching pair, each with one window per floor and a door at the corner. Number 18 has a segmental arch above a small paned flush window on the upper floor and a modern, segmental bay window on the ground floor. Number 20 also has a modern, panelled door.
