Description
This is a mid- to late 18th-century house, formerly the Vicarage, located on the north side of Roydon Road in Stanstead Abbots village. It was altered and extended to the rear around 1800. The house is two storeys and has attics. The walls are roughcast, potentially over a timber frame, and sit upon a plinth. The roof is slated with a gambrel shape, with the upper part of the rear slope extended to cover a parallel rear extension. On the south end, a full-height canted bay window is present, topped by a pyramid extension of the main roof. Three flat-topped dormers are visible on the west slope of the roof. The west-facing front has three windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor. All windows are flush box sashes with architraves and 6/6 panes, with sash windows above the door and in the bay. The front door is half-glazed with a flush panelled design, featuring a round-headed radial fanlight, and sits within a panelled, pilastered doorcase. The doorcase incorporates elongated consoles that support a flat moulded hood, raised on shaped brackets.
