Description
The entrance pylon at Haileybury and Imperial Service College, located 7 metres east of South Lodge, is a notable structure built between 1806 and 1809 by William Wilkins for the East India College. The pylon features a red brick base and backing, with a facing of white brick from Ware framed in Portland Stone. It stands tall at the corner, facing the drive and the college, and is characterized by a deep stone base course and wide stones set vertically at the corners. The structure is topped with an overhanging moulded stone capping cornice. This pylon reflects the design of the original pilastered gatelodge.
