Description
Bunyans Cottage is a 16th-century house located on the north side of Old School Green in Bennington. It features a timber frame set on a painted brick sill, with roughcast walls and a weatherboarded apron beneath a steep old red tile roof. The house is one and a half storeys tall and has a three-cell layout with a central chimney and a lobby-entry plan, facing south. A red brick T-plan chimney is positioned a third of the way from the eastern end, and there is a drip-board across the eastern gable. The cottage has two-light casement windows and a gabled dormer above the middle room. A gabled porch leads to a boarded door. Inside, there is a wide fireplace that has been infilled, plank doors with strap hinges, and an 18th-century cornice with cyma brackets along the north and south walls of the middle room, which is similar to that found in The Croft No 2 Town Lane. The cottage is named after a recent owner.
