Description
This is a house dating from the 16th century, originally an open hall house. A floor was inserted and a central chimney added in the 17th century. A bay was extended to the west in the 1970s, and two dormers were added to the left. The timber frame is visible, set on a tarred brick sill, with white infill panels and a steep roof covered in old red tiles. It is a long, one-and-a-half storey, three-cell house, featuring a central chimney and lobby-entry plan, facing south. A single-storey painted brick and tile former harness maker's shop is set back at the east end, and a western extension creates a near-symmetrical front with four three-light leaded casement windows. The central entrance has a boarded door with a glass panel and drip-board on shaped brackets, alongside an old three-light gabled dormer window at eaves to the right. Two matching dormers are situated to the left of the door. The tall red brick central chimney has an 18th-century upper section. Inside, the inserted floors in the hall feature chamfered joists. The house was formerly known as Town House.
