TL 32 SE BRAUGHING HAMELS LANE (south side)

5/1 Farmhouse at Hamels Park Farm (along - drive 380m from lane)

Farmhouse. C17 or earlier, renovated in later C19. Timber frame plastered and lined as ashlar, front has half timbered gables, basket-work panelled pargetting and painted framework. Red tiled roofs, hipped at ends. 2-storeys T-plan house with early C18 windows in rear wing with stair and kitchen. 3-unit front range facing S with large central chimney at E end of hall (middle room) and smaller central chimney to W room. Door now central. 4-windows front with central gabled gothic timber porch to battened door and side seats. Mullioned and transomed C19 wooden windows, 3-light at ends, 2-light flanking the porch. Chimneys have tall diagonal shafts. Grey brick pantry with roof louvre and red brick dairy, half sunk in ground in line to E of rear wing linked by tiled gabled porch on SE to enclose a rear courtyard.
