Description

Wingfield Priory is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with some elements from the 16th century and later work at the rear. The building is timber framed and plastered, designed to look like ashlar, with plaintiled roofs except for the later sections of the rear range, which have pantiled roofs. It has two storeys and an attic in the main range, which consists of three cells and a long rear wing divided into three sections.

The windows include a mix of 20th-century reproduction mullion and transom windows, as well as many original mullioned windows, all fitted with 20th-century plain glass. There are two original windows on the left gable end. The entrance features a cross-passage entry with a small 20th-century gabled porch that has a plank and muntin door; inside this porch is the original entrance door, matching in style. There is also a similar porch at the rear.

Inside, the building has a fine interior with a fully exposed frame and close studding throughout the ground floor. The hall and parlour feature cross-beamed ceilings and storey posts with moulded heads. The parlour is situated at a higher level and has an original cellar beneath it. There are newel stairs and some original doors. The rear range includes a 16th-century section attached to the main house, a three-bay barn with a queen-post roof that has been significantly altered and features several large diamond-mullioned windows, and a lower range of stabling that likely dates from the early 18th century.
