Description
Abbey Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, featuring stacks that have been significantly altered and rebuilt in the mid 19th century. The original timber-framed core is encased in white brick from the mid 19th century, which is now colourwashed. The roof is plaintiled and adorned with crest tiles. The building has two storeys and a symmetrical facade, characterized by diagonal brick buttresses at the corners. The central entrance section is set forward and gabled, with wide eaves. There are three windows featuring stone casements in a Gothick style, with cinquefoil-headed lights and square hood moulds. The entrance includes a two-centre arched doorway with an old plank door that has studded battens. Above the central first-floor window, there are the de la Pole arms. The farmhouse has two notable stacks: the right gable end stack has two circular shafts with moulded brick decoration and star caps, while the rear stack has three similar shafts. The interior dates from the 19th century, with raised ceilings, and at the top of the stairs, there is a section of 17th-century oak panelling. There are remains of a moat adjacent to the farmhouse.
