Description
No. 11 Amwell End is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The front is made of yellow-brown stock brick, which covers an earlier timber-framed structure. Above the first-floor windows, there is a parapet that is covered with stucco. The old tiled roofs are set back, and there are yellow-brown stock brick chimneystacks.
On the first floor, there are five early 19th-century sash windows with divided glazing. These windows have horns on the upper sashes, concealed boxes, and are set within reveals beneath rubbed brick flat arches, with stone cills. The ground floor features four similar windows, along with a central entrance that is recessed beneath a semicircular arch. This arch has stone impost blocks and a semicircular fanlight above it. The entrance door has seven panels, with two lower panels, three small central panels, and two upper panels, all featuring bolection mouldings.
At the rear, there are outshoots with plastered walls and yellow-brown stock brick casing, topped with old tile roofs that have an 'M' gable design. In the early 20th century, the building was known as The Mill House and was occupied by the manager of JW French & Co. flour mills.
