Description
No. 25 Amwell End is a house and former inn, now used as commercial premises. It dates from the 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. The building features a stucco front over timber-framing and has an old tiled roof. It is two storeys high. The first floor has two flush sash windows with exposed boxes and modern leaded glazing. On the ground floor, there is a carriageway on the left, a central doorway with an architrave surround, and a flat hood with a moulded fascia supported by cut console brackets. To the right is a 19th-century closed shop window with small panes. At the rear, there is a long outshoot that is timber-framed with plastered walls and an old tiled roof. This building was formerly known as The George Inn, Great Amwell, and should not be confused with the more famous inn of the same name located in High Street, Ware.
