Description
No. 9 Amwell End is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the 18th and 20th centuries. The front is made of yellow brick in Flemish bond, while the ground floor is covered by modern plaster. There is a parapet with stone coping and an old tiled roof behind. A yellow brick chimneystack is located on the right side of the building.
The structure has two storeys. On the first floor, there are two small-paned sash windows that are set back with concealed boxes beneath rubbed flat arches and stone cills. There is also a central blank recess with a rubbed flat arch above and a stone cill. On the ground floor, there is a recessed arched doorway on the left, featuring stone impost blocks and a blind fanlight, with a modern door. To the right, a modern plate glass shop window has been inserted. Internally, remnants of timber-framing are still visible.
