Description
No. 3 Amwell End is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the 17th century and was altered in the 18th century. The building features a timber-framed structure with a masonry-lined stucco front and an old tiled roof. Above the modillioned eaves cornice, there is a box dormer casement. A red brick chimney stack has been rebuilt against the adjoining property, No. 5, which is not included in this listing.
The house is two storeys high with attics and has three nearly flush set sash windows with glazing bars and exposed boxes on the first floor. The 19th-century shopfront has a surround with pilasters that support foliated consoles. The original windows, which were arcaded, have been replaced with plate glass, and the central double-leaf half-glazed doors have been joined together. At the rear, there is a long outshoot that is partly timber-framed and plastered, featuring old tiled roofs, with the rearmost roof having a margin of Welsh slates.
