Description
No. 14 High Street is a house that was later converted into a public house and is now a wine bar and restaurant. It dates from the 17th century but has a 19th-century front and underwent internal remodelling in the 1980s. The building is timber-framed and covered in stucco, topped with an old tiled roof that features a modern ornamental fretted lead ridge. At the rear, there is a tall 19th-century yellow brick chimneystack with oversailing courses and two terracotta pots. The structure has two storeys.
On the ground floor, there are late 19th-century canted mullion and transom bow windows, which are topped by a late 19th-century tiled fascia in green and cream tile, supported by moulded brackets and featuring a central simplified pediment motif. The first floor has two triple-light sash windows. The interior was opened up on the ground floor during the 1980s. At the rear, there are twin outshots that are timber-framed and plastered, with old tiled roofs creating an 'M' gabled configuration. The building was formerly known as The Star Public House.
