Description
No. 16 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century and was refurbished in 1980, as indicated by modern panelled pargeting. The building features a timber-framed structure with colourwashed plaster and roughcast, topped by an old tiled roof that has modern fretted lead ridge and flashings, along with a box casement dormer. A tall red brick chimneystack is located on the left side. The building has two storeys and attics, with a jettied first floor that includes a flush casement window with leaded glazing bars. The ground floor has a modern shopfront made of stud and brick infill, featuring wide plate glass windows on either side of the entrance door. A date of '1512' is shown on the modern pargeting, but this is an erroneous assumption that the site was part of the historic Star Inn, rather than the former Star Public House next door at No. 14.
