Description
No. 37 Bridge Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It has origins from the late 18th century and a core that dates back to the 17th century. The building features a painted ashlar plinth, brick construction, and a slate roof with a brick stack at the rear. It stands three storeys high and has a three-window range, with 6/6 sash windows that have painted reveals and stone sills, all set under gauged brick flat arches. There are also 3/3 sashes and a brick modillion eaves.
The entrance on the right consists of a six-panel door with a fanlight, which is recessed in a plain case. This door is framed by a moulded keyed architrave and topped with an open pediment hood supported by consoles, along with a painted brick band.
Inside, the building features an early 19th-century open well staircase with stick balusters and a swan neck rail. The attic has a 17th-century king post roof that was altered in the 18th or 19th century. On the second floor, there are two-panel doors, 18th-century panelling, 20th-century cupboards, six-panel doors, a 19th-century fire surround, and architraves. The first floor includes six-panel doors, a cornice, shutters, and a 19th-century fireplace. The ground floor has four- and six-panel doors with architraves, a casement overlight, a flagstone floor, a 19th-century fireplace, skirting boards, and shutters. The cellar is brick-lined with cobbled floors and a stone rubble stack base.
