Description
No. 44 Bridge Street is a house, now used as offices, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped plain tile roof with brick stacks at the rear. The building has three storeys and a cellar, with a four-window range that includes 6/6 sash windows set in beaded cases, all with stone sills and under gauged brick segmental arches that have keystones. There is a brick sill band beneath the windows, and the corners of the building are accentuated with painted chamfered quoins.
The entrance, located to the right of the center, consists of a six-panel door with an overlight featuring glazing bars, all sheltered by an arched hood with an open pediment supported by consoles. Inside, the late 18th-century dogleg staircase is notable for its turned balusters and newels, along with a moulded handrail.
On the second floor, there are 19th-century fireplaces and two plank doors with architraves. The first floor has part-glazed three-panel doors and two 19th-century fireplaces. The ground floor features a two-panel door, a plank door, a wall alcove, and a half-glazed 18th-century door with an overlight, as well as panelling. The cellar includes an ashlar stack base, is stone-lined, and has a chamfered ceiling beam.
