Description
14 King Street is a shop and dwelling built in the early 19th century. It features painted brick with a dressed stone plinth and a 20th-century plain tile roof. The building has a curved front and is constructed as one unit with No. 1 Bridge Street. It stands three storeys high with a cellar and has two window ranges: 8/8 sashes in moulded cases under segmental arches on the lower level and 4/4 sashes above, with brick modillion eaves.
On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century shop front to the right, which includes a central half-glazed panelled door with an overlight and altered plate-glass windows, all beneath bowed, moulded fascia-boards and a hood supported by fluted pilasters. To the left, there is an 8/8 sash window under a segmental arch and a 6-panel door in a moulded case, with a blocked overlight under a semicircular arch.
Inside, there is a winder staircase with 20th-century tiling leading to the second floor, which contains three early 19th-century plank doors. The first floor features a 19th-century firegrate and a plank door, while the ground floor has a plank door leading to the rear. The cellar includes a plank door, is stone-lined, and has stop-chamfered ceiling beams.
