Description
The East Barn at Swangles Farm, located 40 metres east-north-east of the house, is a barn dating from around 1600, with a two-bay extension added around 1700. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and rests on a low red brick sill wall. The barn has a steep roof that was originally thatched but is now covered in corrugated iron. It is a single-aisled, three-bay structure facing south, with a central doorway and a two-bay unaisled extension to the east. The original part of the barn includes jowled posts, arched braces to the cambered tie beams and to the arcade plate, and heavy angled struts supporting the clasp purlins. There are no collars present, and remnants of the aisle tie and one aisle spur sill plate can still be seen. The exterior displays a similar clasped purlin roof.
