Description

Thundridgehill is a house dating from the late 17th century, constructed of plum brick with a steep old red tile roof. It features a deep central staircase plan and is roofed in one span, with external gable chimneys, facing south. The building has two storeys, attics, and a cellar, with symmetrical three-window elevations on both the front and back. The eaves are adorned with brick-on-edge dentils and gable parapets, while the tall rectangular chimneys have corbelled tops.

At the upper floor level, there are two tie rods with circular tie plates, one at the front and one at the rear. The front elevation has slightly recessed boxed sash windows, with early 19th-century margin light sashes on the first floor. These have been replaced by a modern two-light casement and a semi-circular bay window on either side of the central door. The central entrance features a four-panel half-glazed door with a wide frame, a moulded transom, and a semi-circular radial fanlight set under a half-round brick arch. There are similar blind arches above the ground floor front windows.

The symmetrical three-window rear elevation has segmental arches and flush two-light casement windows. The central door at the rear matches the front but is a six-panel fielded door accessed by five steps. Inside, the house contains ovolo-moulded panelled doors with H hinges, cross-beams, and a large fireplace in the single room to the left of the entrance. The parlour on the right features a charming 18th-century chimney piece with reeded colonettes and has been extended to include a small unheated room at the rear. There are also small early 19th-century red brick and tile extensions on the west end, which step down from one and a half storeys (with a rear dormer) to a single storey.
