FLAMSTEAD PUDDEPHAT'S LANE TL 01 SE (South side) 4/43 East Barn and attached - Calf House at Puddephat's Farm 15M to SE of house GV II

Barn and attached Calf House. Early C17. Timber frame on low red brick sill in English-bond renewed in C19. Dark weatherboarding and steep old red tile roofs. A tall 4-bays barn facing S with gabled S porch and lower 2-bays Calf House attached to E end facing S. Jowled posts and long straight braces to tie-beams. Clasped-purlin roofs with one purlin to each slope. Barn has double-curved inclined queen-posts, without collars, supporting the purlins, and straight wind-braces. Strainer beams have been inserted later between the purlins. Mid-height rail staggered. Square-butted scarf in wallplate. Opposed double doors in threshing bay with smaller side door on N. High pitching door in W gable. Prominent carpenter's marks. Straight inclined queen-posts in Calf House and 2 small doors.
