Description

East Barn and attached Calf House at Puddephat's Farm is an early 17th-century structure located 15 meters southeast of the main house. It features a timber frame resting on a low red brick sill, which has been renewed in the 19th century. The exterior is clad in dark weatherboarding with steep old red tile roofs. The barn, which has four bays, faces south and includes a gabled porch, while the lower two-bay Calf House is attached to the eastern end, also facing south.

The barn showcases jowled posts and long straight braces supporting the tie-beams. It has a clasped-purlin roof with one purlin on each slope, and the roof structure includes double-curved inclined queen-posts without collars, along with straight wind-braces. Later additions include strainer beams inserted between the purlins. The barn features a mid-height rail that is staggered and a square-butted scarf joint in the wallplate. There are opposed double doors in the threshing bay, a smaller side door on the north side, and a high pitching door in the west gable. The Calf House has straight inclined queen-posts and two small doors, with prominent carpenter's marks visible throughout the structure.
