Description
No. 33 is a house located in Gaddesden Row, dating from the 16th century and remodelled in the 18th century. The building features an exposed timber frame with red brick infill panels, while the lower part is cased in red brick. It has a steep roof covered with old red tiles. The house is 1½ storeys tall and has three windows on its south-facing side, along with three gabled dormers at the eaves. At the west end, there is a two-storey rear wing that includes a chimney on the west side wall, a very large external chimney on the west gable, and a large internal chimney stack with two conjoined square 18th-century shafts that rise near the ridge on the rear slope of the roof. The front features two 4-light lattice leaded casement windows flanking a plank door, which has a small window to the right and a lean-to tiled canopy above it, as well as a small stair window. Inside, the roof structure includes clasped-purlins with collar and queen-struts in the east gable wall.
