Description
No. 81 High Street is a house and outbuildings dating from the early to mid-18th century, likely encasing an older building, with 19th-century rear extensions and outbuildings. The structure features red brick with blue headers, added stucco surrounds to the door and windows on the ground floor, a stucco plinth, and a narrow plastered eaves soffit. The steeply pitched roof is now slated. The house is L-shaped and two stories tall, facing west, with a parallel-roofed shallow rear extension and two-story outbuildings along the south and west sides of the yard. A large square chimney is located at the junction of the front range and the southeast rear wing, with a later external chimney on the north gable. The symmetrical west front has two windows and a central door. The flush-box sash windows, originally fitted with older sashes, have been replaced with 19th-century versions featuring two-over-two panes. The lower openings have keystones in the stucco surrounds, and there is older flat wood on shaped brackets with a stucco door surround. A rectangular fanlight is above the six-panel door.
