Description

Two semi-detached houses stand on Albert Street, dating to around 1840. The houses were designed as a single block of two storeys and a cellar. They are built of plum-coloured brick with lighter red brick dressings, a low stucco plinth, and a slate roof. The north-facing elevation is three windows wide, with a wide carriage entrance in the centre featuring boarded double doors set within an elliptical, gauged red brick arch. Ground floor windows are positioned below the windows of the first floor, and two doorways flank the central archway. The windows are sash windows with 8/8 panes and red, flat-gauged arches. The doorways have red, gauged arches in two recessed orders, a stone step, a semi-circular fanlight and four-panel doors, with flush-beaded lower panels and a round-headed moulded upper panel. Red brick jambs and quoins create a striking colour contrast with the plum brick walling.
