Description

The Lodge is a 17th-century timber-framed cottage that was converted in the early 19th century into a picturesque lodge in the Cottage Orne style. The building features lath and plaster infilling, rendered and faced with panels of industrial clinker and glass, which are separated by courses of broken china. It has a square plan with one bay and a curved upper storey that projects on seven columns on the south and west sides, with the columns also clad in clinker. The lodge has a coved cornice decorated with twigs, and the soffit of the jettied upper floor is patterned with twigs. It includes small-pane, segmental-headed metal casements, with those on the upper floor set in eyebrow recesses. The entrance features an early wide-plank door with scrolled hinges. There are modern extensions on the north and east sides.
