Description

The Cottage is a timber-frame building, dating from the 16th century, which was later encased in brick and extended in the late 17th or early 18th century. Further alterations occurred around 1830. The building is constructed of painted brick, with an old tile and slate roof. It has a square plan and two storeys, featuring floor bands. The front elevation has three pegged oak casement windows with leaded lights, of two and three panes. Restored parapets and first-floor quoins are present, along with pineapple finials. A conservatory passage with Gothic cross-glazing bars was added around 1830. The west and north garden elevations each feature two, two-storey canted bay windows. First-floor windows on the west side appear to be original 18th-century leaded casements, while those on the north side are early 19th-century casements with Gothic leaded lights and bracketed lead roofs. A large, conjoined square chimney stack rises from the front range. The interior retains good early 19th-century detailing.

A one-bay lean-to extension, dating from the 17th or 18th century, projects from the west side, featuring mullioned and leaded windows on the north side for both ground and first floors. A further range, dating from the 19th or 20th century with a mansard roof, runs alongside the west side.
