Description
Ashtree Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage that features a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a gabled thatched roof. The building is one storey high with attics, and it has a single eyebrow dormer on the front roof slope. The windows are 20th-century casements with leaded lights. There is a brick chimney stack on the southwest gable end and a 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the rear and southwest end. Inside, the cottage reveals two bays of timber framing with unjowled posts, straight bracing that cuts through the studs, and well-crafted chamfered floor joists. Although small, the cottage showcases substantial late framing.
