Description

Poplar Cottage is a house dating to the late 16th century, with a cross wing that may be even earlier. It is built with a timber frame and plastered walls, and has gabled peg tile roofs. The house is two storeys high and features a formerly jettied cross wing at the north end. A small ridgeline stack is present, with a front door set below in a baffle entry position. The windows are 20th-century casements with small panes. The main block has straight internal wall braces and an inserted floor. The cross wing includes central tenoned floor joists and a cambered tie beam. The site is a moated site.
