Description

Ramseys is a house dating from the 15th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with a clay machine-made roof. The house has a T-shaped plan, originally comprising a single-aisled hall, now of one storey with attics, and a two-storey crosswing at the south end. The crosswing was formerly jettied and has a half-hipped end on its front. The rear of the hall roof was formerly hipped with a gablet but is now connected to a large 20th-century two-storey extension. The front of the hall roof has two gabled dormers, and the north end is gabled, adjoined by a single-story 20th-century extension with a gabled peg tile roof. A small north gable wall stack is present, alongside a modern stack against the south flank of the crosswing. Windows are 20th-century timber casements with central horizontal glazing bars. The crosswing features soffit tenoned floor joists, large arch bracing on the wall facing the hall, jowled posts, and a cambered tie beam. Remains of diamond mullioned windows can be found in the crosswing and in the back wall of the aisle.
