Description
Ellis Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a gambrel roof covered in peg tiles. The original structure consists of three bays and was a former open hall without any upper chamber. There is a 20th-century extension on the south end, which has a gabled peg tile roof and is two storeys high. The main block is one storey with attics, featuring four lean-to dormers on the front roof slope. A small, off-centre brick stack rises from the ridgeline, and there are large 20th-century extensions at the rear. The front of the house includes a 20th-century gabled enclosed porch, which incorrectly displays the date 1625 in plaster. The windows are 19th-century timber casements, each with central horizontal glazing bars. The structure has jowled posts and a cambered tie beam, with one surviving arch brace. There are inserted 17th-century floors and a stack, the upper part of which is made of clay. The roof was originally of crown post form but was raised to gambrel form, likely in the late 18th century.
