Description
Harpers is a house dating from the late 16th century. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior, with the framing exposed on the front elevation. The roof is half hipped and covered with peg tiles, and there is a single-storey extension at the west end that has a hipped catslide roof. The house has two storeys and a large rear extension added in the 20th century. A central stack with a rectangular base and two rebuilt diagonal shafts rises from the ridgeline. The windows are 20th-century leaded light casements, and the structure includes jowled posts and internal cranked wall bracing at the corners. The 'hall' section retains a 16th-century floor with soffit tenons that have diminished haunches. The roof is of the side purlin type and features arched wind bracing. There is a 17th-century rebuilt window in the front wall with moulded mullions. The house is situated on a moated site.
