Description
Sawkins is a house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, topped with a gabled peg tile roof. The building has two storeys and attics, with a central square brick stack and a single-storey gable-roofed store at the south end. The front of the house includes 19th-century casement windows and a central door with a flat hood supported by scroll brackets. At the back, there is a continuous outshot with a catslide roof. Inside, the simple timber frame is exposed, showcasing straight bracing and much reused timber. The attic contains substantial joists, which are an original feature. This house is a late but very unaltered example of a four-room lobby entry house, with stairs located behind the stack, an outshot, and an attic.
