Description
Rolfes Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 14th century and early 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with slate roofs. Originally an aisled hall, it now stands at two storeys with crosswings at each end, the southern crosswing being a 20th-century extension. The south crosswing features a low pitched gable, while the north crosswing has a hipped roof covered in red hip tiles and displays an exposed jetty supported by two original jetty brackets. The front of the farmhouse includes a 20th-century gabled porch with a slate roof. The windows in the older part of the building are double hung sashes with marginal glazing bars and moulded surrounds, while the new extension has 20th-century small pane casements. There is a small, off-centre stack at the ridgeline and a longer stack on the rear wall. The former 14th-century aisled hall retains significant parts of its major truss to the north of the current cross passage. The wing contains remnants of a heavy crown post roof and centre tenoned floor joists.
