Description
Spooners is a cottage that dates back to the 14th century or earlier, with later alterations from the late 16th century. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with thatched roofs. The building has an 'L' shaped plan, consisting of a two-storey wing at the northwest and a main block that is one storey with attics. The wing has a half-hipped roof, while the main block has a hipped roof at the southeast end. The front of the cottage includes a 20th-century gabled porch with peg tiles and 20th-century leaded light windows. There is also a gabled thatched dormer and a rectangular ridgeline stack. The wing is an evidently early structure that shows signs of weathering and blackening, with wide stud spacing. This part was raised in the late 16th century or 17th century. The main block is a late 16th-century former open hall, featuring jowled posts and straight internal wall braces.
