Description
The gatehouse, cart lodge, and outbuildings at Great Garnetts Farm date from the 15th century or earlier. They are timber framed and feature a variety of roofing materials. The gatehouse is a tall, open structure topped with a peg tile roof. Inside, it has an original floor supported by center tenoned floor joists and a spine beam held up by brackets. The loft area contains pigeon nesting boxes made of clay. To the northeast, there is a long range with a gabled asbestos roof and rendered walls, which showcases late medieval timber framing with jowled posts, several old door openings, and a rebuilt roof. To the southwest of the gatehouse is another long range that has a half hipped peg tile roof and rendered walls. Attached to the southwest corner of this range is a cart lodge featuring a peg tile roof and walls made of gault and red brick. The site is moated.
