Description
Chimballs is an early to mid-17th century house. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a very steep, peg-tiled half-hipped roof. The house is a typical lobby-entry design, originally with two rooms on each floor. A 20th-century peg-tiled gabled extension is on the north end, and a hipped peg-tiled brewhouse is attached to the south end, featuring a tall end stack. The main roof has a central rectangular ridge stack, a continuous catslide lean-to, and a gabled dormer. The house also includes a 20th-century enclosed porch and casement windows. A spine beam is offset to accommodate the stack and features elaborate baluster ornament on its soffit at the abutment. Inside, there is an inglenook stack with a cambered tie beam, unjowled posts, and straight wall bracing interrupting the studs.
