1/10 Greens Farmhouse and attached front garden walls

GV II

Farmhouse. Early C16. Timber framed and plastered with peg tile roofs. Of 2 storeys and of 'U' plan form. The front long wall jettied range has a gable on the south end and is hipped with gablet on the north. The jetty is part underbuilt, but has original brackets on its northern half. Windows are a mixture of casements with small panes and old leaded light casements. Small single storey, C20 extension on south flank wall. C16 extension, or original service block on south west corner has had its floor removed and is now open as one space. Conventional plan form with 2 bay 'hall' and great chamber and single bay parlour/solar and service end. Hall has chamfered spine beam and 2 original door heads leading to rear block and to contemporary stair tower with newel stair and diamond mullioned window. One post survives of screen wall and mortice for door head and continuous slot for former plank infill. Original rear wall fireplace and stack with moulded mantel beam. Front wall of hall has a probable inserted window with elaborate moulded mullions. Roof is exposed to upper floor rooms and has simple crownposts with shallow arch braces and arch braces to tie beams survive complete in central truss of great chamber. C18 red brick wall encloses north and east sides of front garden. RCHM 30.
