Description
Greens Farmhouse is an early 16th-century farmhouse that features a timber frame and plastered exterior with peg tile roofs. The building is two storeys high and has a 'U' plan form. The front wall jetties out and has a gable at the south end, while the north end is hipped with a gablet. The jetty is partially underbuilt and retains original brackets on its northern half. The windows include a mix of casements with small panes and old leaded light casements. There is a small single-storey extension added in the 20th century on the south flank wall.
At the southwest corner, there is a 16th-century extension or original service block that has had its floor removed, creating an open space. The conventional plan includes a two-bay hall, a great chamber, a single-bay parlour or solar, and a service end. The hall features a chamfered spine beam and two original door heads leading to the rear block and a contemporary stair tower, which has a newel stair and a diamond mullioned window. One post of the screen wall remains, along with a mortice for a door head and a continuous slot for former plank infill. The original rear wall fireplace and stack have a moulded mantel beam. The front wall of the hall likely has an inserted window with elaborate moulded mullions. The roof is exposed in the upper floor rooms and includes simple crown posts with shallow arch braces, as well as complete arch braces to the tie beams in the central truss of the great chamber. A 18th-century red brick wall encloses the north and east sides of the front garden.
