Description

The Memorian Gardens War Memorial is a 20th-century structure commemorating the soldiers who fought in World War I and World War II. Made of Portland stone, it features a decorated cross with engraved stonework that extends down into a slender tapered shaft. The base is a rectangular podium with a recessed panel that lists the names of those who died in the 1914-1918 war, inscribed with the words: "IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE GALLANT MEN OF STANSTED WHO FELL IN THE FIRST GREAT WAR." The podium is set on three tiered steps, with the names of the 1939-1945 war dead inscribed in the risers. The memorial has group value with St. John's Church.
