Description
No. 47 Stortford Road is a building that originally served as a house and now functions as offices. It dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and features a timber frame with plaster, topped by a gabled, gambrel roof made of peg tiles on the front block. The structure includes two rear wings that are two stories high, each with gabled roofs also covered in peg tiles.
The front of the building displays three 19th-century, two-light casement windows with mullions, high transoms, and leaded lights in the upper sections. On the ground floor, there are two similar three-light windows alongside a central doorcase that features a flat hood supported by diamond-decorated scroll brackets. The rear of the building has two gabled dormers and an old iron casement window with leaded lights, as well as a large rear wall stack. The west extension includes a tall stack. Additionally, there is a single-storey outbuilding to the west, which has a gabled peg tile roof and is partly rendered and partly covered with black boarding, showing fragments of old pargetting on the south wall. This building is included primarily for its group value.
