Description
No. 1 Eastgate Street is an 18th-century house located in Harwich. It features a timber-framed structure with a rendered brick front and a gabled clay plain tile roof, which includes two hipped roofed dormers. The building stands two storeys high with attics and has a raised rendered band between the storeys.
On the first floor, there are three double-hung sash windows with small panes. The ground floor contains two double-hung sash windows with small panes as well, along with an early 19th-century open pedimented door-case that has consoles and a four-panel door. Adjacent to this is a square 'shop' window, also with small panes, topped by a flat hood supported on thin consoles.
Inside, the house features a wide inglenook fireplace with a timber mantel beam on the rear wall.
