Description
This is a late 18th or early 19th century house located on Castlegate Street in Harwich. The building is timber-framed and rendered with a gabled clay tile roof, and features some black weatherboarding on the gables and upper floors to the flanks and rear. It is two storeys high with attics and cellars. The roof has two hipped dormers facing the northwest and two gabled dormers facing southeast. The northwest elevation features two double-hung sash windows with small panes over three similar windows, and one square window. The east-facing elevation, originally on Eastgate Street, has one 20th-century double-hung sash window with small panes above a similar window, and an early 19th-century door surround with a flat hood supported by consoles. The door surround also includes moulded pilasters and a fanlight with coloured glass and a diamond glazing pattern. The interior includes softwood spine beams, the base of an old stack with a hearth of a segmental plan, and a roof with joggled side purlins.
